Abstract:
The author examines the potential of group-analytical supervision formats as a tool for promoting developmental processes in school learning environments. Based on the observation that schools, as social microcosms, reflect current social, cultural and identity-related conflicts, the author argues that disruptions in schools should not be understood primarily as disciplinary problems, but rather as expressions of unresolved individual and collective conflicts, and can thus be overcome more effectively. By thoroughly analysing a vignette, the author demonstrates how issues of identity, belonging and recognition become concentrated in classroom conflicts. Group-analytical reflection enables the reconstruction of latent contexts of meaning that remain hidden in the immediate everyday events, and makes institutional, group-dynamic and intrapsychic processes amenable to processing. It becomes clear how projections, envy and normative assumptions can contribute to the reproduction of exclusion, and how a group-analytical approach can modify and strengthen the professional attitudes of educational practitioners whilst expanding their scope for action. At the same time, the significance of institutional frameworks is critically examined, particularly with regard to their implicit norms and their impact on the recognition of heterogeneous identities. The author thus makes a practical and theoretically sound contribution to the discussion on group-analytical pedagogy and supervision, including school development and the importance of reflective professionalisation for the creation of democratic and diversity-sensitive educational environments.
